An interactive art installation that describes the story of an alien invasion as a metaphor for climate change which was used to promote a NSW.gov clean energy e-petition
In the year 2030, a virus-like extra-terrestrial AI, known as the Con-Forms invaded our planet & began to consume life to increase their numbers.
United Earth forces fought valiantly, but were ravaged by the highly advanced and disciplined Con-Forms.
But all is not lost, this Halloween what remains of the resistance, led by commander Musk, is escaping to Mars with secret Alien technology that can save life on Earth.
Will you help clear a path for their rocket by taking out the Alien interceptors?
> Yes / No
Warning : Non-conformers risk injury and will be silenced.
In the year 2030, droughts, floods & fires have devastated global food production, and armed forces are used to block millions of starving climate refugees from overwhelming less effected countries.
Inflation, Tax and Debt have led most independent businesses to bankruptcy, and a monopoly of Mega corporations control the sale and distribution of almost all food, energy & communications.
Escaping the horrors and hopelessness of the real world, people spend most of their time in isolation staring into a flat dream-screen.
THE END
The majority of electricity distributed in NSW is generated by burning fossil fuels, which in part contributed to the devastating floods we experienced recently.
Another problem with fossil fuels is that their price is determined internationally, so if Russian Gas exports become volatile, the price of our electricity will rise again. High electricity prices reduce our purchasing power and increase manufacturing costs, cheaper electricity would grow our economy and create jobs.
Reason suggests that the price to heat/cool a pensioner’s home in Dubbo shouldn’t be determined by negotiations with Putin.
So if cheap clean electricity is good for our future, why aren’t more solar and wind farms being built?
The following issues block the private and public sectors from investing in new renewable power plants:
1. Private energy companies don’t build more power plants, because an increase in supply would reduce the price of electricity and make their investments unprofitable.
2. If the Government wanted to build power plants, it would need to raise the money through unfavourable cost cuts or tax increases which end in bureaucracy.
In order to solve the investment problem, we ask that the government develops a renewable energy initiative, which administers people to directly crowdfund solar farm and energy bank projects. This action will reduce the price of electricity, reduce our climate change contributions and secure our energy independence in a future that is being shaped by economic warfare between superpowers.
The Retro Arcade is a proof of concept art installation that demonstrates how classic virtual games can be reimagined to create new games in the real world. It is not for sale at the moment, but if you like to play the game please let us know.
